(ISONG offers a unique opportunity for nurses and nurses working in genetics to meet colleagues from around the world with the same interests, share their experiences, and develop collaborations for research. I hope you meet us!)

Maria C. Katapodi, PhD, RN, FAAN
Professorin Pflegewissenschaft, Medizinische Fakultät, Universität Basel
Associate Adjunct Professor,
University of Michigan School of Nursing
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Fellow
Basel, Schweiz

Prof. Dr. Katapodi is working on the integration of cancer genetics in public health applications, specifically, in cancer prevention and control, and cancer surveillance in families that carry pathogenic variants that predispose to hereditary breast/ovarian and Lynch syndromes. Her research is focused on psychosocial issues, coping, communication and quality of life of mutation carriers and their close biological relatives. She has expertise in intervention development and testing in randomized trials. Finally, she has expertise in meta-analysis methodology. Her first meta-analysis examined the association between perceived breast cancer risk and screening behaviors, and the second one examined the effects of interventions targeting family caregivers of cancer patients.

In addition, I believe that the technological evolution that "forces" the nurse to have a greater knowledge about genetic and molecular aspects and its correlation in clinical practice, where I am currently applying it in monoclonal drugs for the treatment of cancer, I would also like to know the experience of nurses abroad in these areas and be able to apply it in my country.")
